[1906] KANGAROO ISLAND LIGHTHOUSES.
In the Assembly on Tuesday Mr. Tucker asked:— (1) Is it the intention of the Government to erect a lighthouse at St. Albans? (2) If not, is it the intention of the Hon. the Commissioner to call for a report as to the necessity for its construction? The Premier replied:— (1) The Marine Board's report is as fallows:— "The Marine Hoard do not recommend the erection of any lighting apparatus at Cape St. Albans, on account of the additional cost of keepers which would be incurred. To meet the difficulty, however, it has been very strongly recommended to the Government to make provision for building a new light tower at a point a quarter of a mile further south of the present lighthouse at Cape Jervis, and to use the lighting apparatus—now in store— so that the beam of light will show as far as Cape Willoughby. This light will be divided by a sector, so that a vessel keeping in a certain line of light will always be in safety, and free from dangers on either hand. A small red light will also be placed at the foot of the Cape Willoughby Lighthouse to mark the reef near the island, between Willoughby and St. Albans Capes." (2). The Government has given instructions for provision to be made on thus year's estimates for this work as recommended by the Marine Board.

After the upgrade to acetylene gas in 1914, the light no longer needed to be regularly checked.
