About Thomas Walter AYRIS

Mr H. Ayris, Pulcara [20 miles from Kingscote], was another place visited. Mr Ayris is making great headway at his place also. He has from 150 to 200 acres of wheat, oats and barley, and the growth of his onions is simply phenomenal. Mr Ayris (who is 20 miles from Kingscote), is also going to have a fine stone residence erected. He has the stone ready now. He is doing a lot of clearing and, anxious to get more done, is looking out for more men.

Kangaroo Island Courier (Kingscote, SA : 1907 - 1951), Saturday 7 December 1907, page 4

Mr. W. T. Ayris. [Thomas Walter AYRIS]

During the past fortnight two ex-residents of Kangaroo Island have passed away (writes our Kingscote correspondent). The late Mr. W. T. Ayris went to the island more than a quarter of a century ago with his brother, Mr. H. Ayris. Prior to that they carried on business as teamsters in the country north of Broken Hill railway line. Mr. H. Ayris, who had taken over the Queenscliffe Hotel Kingscote, bought the property now owned by Mr. A. T. Brumby, at MacGillivray, near Kingscote, and Mr. W. T. Ayris took charge. When Mr. H. Ayris sold his property his brother went to live with him, near Adelaide. Mr. W. T. Ayris was 70 [sic] [76?] years of age at the time of his death.About Thomas Walter AYRIS

Henry Ayris had the licence for the Queenscliffe Hotel from 8 September 1903 until 11 September 1907. This was between Andersons. Anderson had recently died and Ayris took over from Mrs Anderson for four years until Andersons took over again.
