1954 The Parndana School Committee and the School Welfare Club have jointly bought, equipped and furnished a caravan to house one of the teachers. This was made necessary through the lack of room in the houses built on the blocks and it is necessary for teachers driving the buses to be able to live where the pick-up of the children commences.

Parndana to celebrate

PARNDANA on Kangaroo Island is celebrating 50 years of education on the weekend of September 30, 2000. The first school started in a Nissan hut with 16 enrolled students and Mr Ken Keane as the only teacher. Since then, the school has been on two sites before the present one - the Parndana Area School - that was opened in October 1959. An enthusiastic group of ex-students is beginning to contact as many people as possible who were involved with the school through the past 50 years. Arrangements are in hand to make this a fun weekend of memories and reunions. Activities will include a stu-dent and teacher roll call, class reunions, photos, an old-style ball and a Sunday church service. We are also planning to compile a book of anecdotal stories of "Life in the Camp & Beyond". If you are interested in being a part of the celebration and would like more information please contact me at Middleton (phone . . . ) or answer the advertisement in this paper.Shirley Mowatt Middleton
