In 1921 the family left Lake Farm and moved to Cygnet River in a couple of homes before settling at 'Arranmore Farm' (the kids called it Misery Farm) (Apparently the owner of Lake Farm advised August he would leave the Farm to the Tiggemann Family, but the owner died before the Will was ever changed) - Rob Tiggemann 31 July 2018

About Adolph August TIGGEMANN

At the age of 16, August was impatient with city life and his father suggested he travel to Kangaroo Island to find the work he was interested in. August travelled on the vessel James Comrie and arrived at Kingscote on 8th March 1901.

For seven years he travelled around the island which was very isolated and undeveloped at the time seeking work where it was available. One of his first regular contract jobs was driving a bullock team to supply wood to the Cape Borda Lighthouse. This was his first stable job and he received 20 pounds. He also cut wood and sent it to Port Adelaide at the time. In the early 1900s, August also obtained work cutting narrowleaf for the various Eucalyptus stills on the island. He also worked at "Yakka Gumming" which was a thriving industry in those years. This work involved chopping of and collecting the outer layer of the Yakka and exporting to Adelaide. He also undertook several contracts of clearing scrub for road development in an era before heavy machinery when it was all done with hand tools (Grubber, axe and Wallaby jack). August also obtained work on various farms including shearing and this gave him the experience and knowledge so that in 1908 he was appointed Manager of Lake Farm, Wisanger, which he managed for 12 years.
