Claude operated his gunsmith business in a basement, Hindley Street, north side, close to Bank Street.
1908-1912 managed "The Springs", Hd Cassini.
1910 his brother was managing "Bark Hut", Hd of Cassini.
Father (Lt-Col John William Castine) continued to have an interest in KI farming for many years.
The death occurred at Magill on Wednesday of Mr C. C. Castine, the popular secretary of the S.A. Rifle Clubs Association. He was 62 years of age and saw active service in the South African War. About 1910 he came to Kangaroo Island and for several years worked the Bark Hut property. During that period he joined up with the Kingscote Rifle Club, and his advice and assistance was much appreciated by its members. Some time after returning to Adelaide he commenced business dealing with Rifles, Guns etc., and some of his old friends often looked in when in Adelaide, to chat on matters effecting the welfare of the Island, of which the late Mr Castine took a keen interest. He leaves a wife and two daughters [Claire and Kathleen]. His friends on the Island regret to hear of his death.
