[1908] Kingscote Trades and Progress Association.
The annual general meeting of the above was held in the Council Hall last night the President (Mr R. L. Barrett) presiding over a good attendance. The secretary read minutes of previous meeting, also the correspondence.
A letter was received from the members for the district with reference to the water supply stating that Mr Stewart had been instructed to commence the bore for water immediately; further stating that the delay in connection with the construction of the jetty had been caused through an alteration of the plans being made so as to have it strong enough for railway purposes ; the plans were nearly completed and when finished the work would be pushed on without delay. The new jetty would be constructed a short distance south of the present structure.
The constitution under which the Association will start the new year was then discussed and, after being read through, with the exception of a few alterations, it was decided that the constitution be adopted. The secretary was instructed to have same printed.
On the motion of Mr Leo. Ayliffe, seconded by Mr J. Davidge, Mr W. W. Cook was appointed election-agent. Resolved that the following be appointed an advertising committee: Mesrs F. C. Addison, A. H. Anderson, and E. Meredyth-Wyly. On the motion of Mr Cook, seconded by Mr Leo. Ayliffe, it was resolved that the Association take no active part in elections. The secretary gave a report of the work of the past year and presented the balance-sheet which was received with enthusiasm.
The following officers were elected for the ensuing year:— President, Mr R. L. Barrett; vice-Presidents, Messrs F. C. Addison, J. Davidge, R. Meredyth-Wyly and W. C. Cook; secretary, Mr M. Smith; treasurer, Mr Gerald W. Davidge; committee, Messrs A. H. Anderson, W. H. Strawbridge, J. Emery, H. C. May, L. Aylliffe; auditors, Messrs E. F. Lockyer and V. H. F. Cook. Messrs F. H. Winch, A. B. Campbell and V. H. F. Cook were appointed a committee to collect exhibits of Island products for the next Adelaide September Show. Meeting adjourned.
