Visiting Day at Kingscote School 1909.

What is known as Visiting Day eventuated at the Kingscote School on Monday last. The day being an unusually busy one not so many attended as in previous years but those who did were pleased with the various exhibits of the children's skill placed before them. Under the direction of the teacher (Miss Lindsay) the children sang ' The Song of Australia' and ' Oh, the Sports of Childhood.' At the conclusion of the choruses the juveniles were addressed by the Chairman of the Board of Advice (Mr R. C Thorpe) who informed them that that would probably be the last time he would be afforded an opportunity of addressing them on the occasion of a Visiting Day. He could assure them that he was sorry to leave them but he was not going to say 'good-bye' to them on that occasion. He intended to say 'fare-well' to them all in a different manner before leaving the district.

He then presented certificates of merit as follows : —

Juniors :

Mabel Cook, Lily Sharpe, Florence Brennand.

Upper Juniors:

Willie Lamprey, Roy Burgess, Ivy Sharpe, Elsie Thomas, Eva Leahy.

Apologies for non-attendance were received from Messrs Daw and Barrett who were unavoidably detained.

Visitors Day 1910

A very pleasant day was spent by all who attended at the Kingscote school yesterday, the occasion being visiting day. A large gathering of parents and visitors assembled and all were highly pleased with the excellent display of work shown. Addresses were delivered by the Chairman of the Board of Advice (Mr E. L. Barrett) Messrs V. H. F. Cook, A. C. Burgess and others. The chairman apologised for the absence of Mr A. Daw, who, though away in Sydney, had not forgotten the children, and had sent a message wishing them a happy time there that day. The children gave a good exhibition of drill, and songs, recitations, etc., were pleasingly rendered by them during the morning. The school has made excellent progress during the year and the Inspector spoke very highly of the way in which the school had advanced. The teacher (Mr Rofe) complimented the children on the interest shown by them and the good way in which they had done their work at the school since his arrival. Mr Barrett presented the Certificates of Honor and Merit won by the various children, some of who had only been attending school for a few months, which spoke volumes for the way in which they had studied. Owing unfortunately to the strike the book prizes promised to the children had not arrived but these would be presented later. The sewing was declared excellent and was judged by Mrs Barrett and Miss Daniels, the successful girl being Irene Keley who was presented with a work basket by Mrs V. H. F. Cook. On behalf of the sewing class Miss Porter received a copy of Shakespeare, in recognition of her services as sewing instructress. After further singing by the children an adjournment was made to Little Brownlow, where the rest of the day was spent. Sports of all description were indulged in by all and, aided with a plentiful supply of eatables and a prize for every child, the day passed very pleasantly, ending with hearty cheers for the teacher, Board of Advice and the parents. The Board of Advice sincerely thank all those who worked so hard to make the day tbe success it was, including Mesdames Harman, Barrett, and Forsyth, Miss Lamprey, and Messrs V. H. F. Cook, Carter, Davidge and Burgess. Reference was made to the attendance of the children, and it is gratifying to know that some of them had hardly missed a day daring the year, but with others the attendance was very bad. Mr Rofe pointed out the disadvantage arising therefrom and hoped that in the future the parents would make a special feature of having the children attend regularly.
